My brother and his girlfriend were kind enough to run/walk with me at my pace. We finished in 40 minutes. I have probably been at around a 15 minute-mile pace on my shorter runs, so it looks like I probably shaved a minute per mile off, in the much longer run.
During the second half of the 5K, my running intervals were very short. It was a stretch just to run for five minutes during those times.
I feel good.

Way to go Nick, you've now run a 3.106 mile longer race than my longest!!
Nice job! Congrats on finishing! I'm glad you felt good afterwards, and it was for a good cause. Now, when are you running a marathon? :-)
Michael,
Does that mean you run at the speed of light in any race you enter, or you haven't run a race before?
I wasn't sure.
Chris,
I think one of my next goals will be to RUN A MILE straight without walking, thank you very much! As far as a race to work toward, I thought perhaps I could choose a 5K in the spring or next summer and hope to complete it without walking.
Thanks!
If you wanna do the Flying Pig 5K (early May I believe) or the Redlegs 5K (early June), I'll run 'em with ya.
That's an awesome feat, Nick! I am running myself, to get in better shape and lose weight, of course, after having two beautiful girls! Keep at it. I don't run more than a mile and a 10th or so straight, then I walk at least one or two more, but I figure it's a good start. Great going and tell your pretty wife hello for me!
Chris,
I might take you up on that! I calendared the Flying Pig, but couldn't find a date for Redlegs in 2008. When it gets closer to time I will take a look at the dates and possibilities of actually doing it. By then I might be able to run the whole race.
Lelakay,
Glad you stopped by; thanks for the words of encouragement. I enjoy seeing your notes about your girls that you write!
