Why do you think we care so much?
Now, in my head apparently this sounded much different than it did to the hearers. The question was to ascertain the reason for which we cared so much. And the answer was because we cared about the person to whom we were speaking. But I had no I clue that this would actually be heard as:
What delusional idea convinced you that we actually care about what you're telling us?
That is quite a different question. Those clauses are dangerous when they are ambiguous! Clear communication is so important!

I think that it's good you're learning that girls hear things very differently. For anyone out there who wants to communicate well with a girl, you need to affirm her as you say things. For example, instead of "Why do we care so much?" Say, "Obviously we care about this, why do you think that is?" That way she's not wondering if you need a reason to care or something. It's amazing what learning to speak "our language can do." Nick, you're a great learner and I know you care about the hearers. Since you're a nice and respectful and respectable guy, I'm sure there's a lot of forgiveness for those phrases that sound like they question a girl or make her feel insecure. We're insecure. I'm glad you're learning ways to deal with it.
