Problems in my apartment:
*Lots of holes in the walls
*Microwave does not work
*Ice-maker does not work
*Over half of the over-head light bulbs in the bathroom are blown
*The light bulb in the refrigerator is gone

And all before I arrived. Granted, some of the stuff could take care of. Like the light bulbs. But some of it shows how little our landlord cares about getting things fixed for us. Perhaps because we're college students.

And the light in the refrigerator. That's kind of annoying. You can't just walk into the kitchen at night and get out a gallon of milk. You have to turn on a light. The word is that a previous roommate decided that it was a waste of energy to have a light bulb in the refrigerator. He wanted to cut down on energy use. It failed to register with him that much more energy was lost from simply having the refrigerator door open, and letting the cold air get out, than from the measley 60-Watt bulb or whatever they put in those things.

So that's annoying.

We've been having some ridiculously amazing weather around here. I was able to get out and play some tennis yesterday.

I completed my Logic homework last night, for today, and today, I need to do my calculus homework, for tomorrow. But in the midst of this, I have a huge networking project. I got started on it this weekend and put in about 9 hours, of an estimated (by professor) 30-40 hours. But it feels like that may not be an accurate estimate, for me.

My room is a wreck. Something has to be done. But not now, now, I must go to class.

This week is going by pretty quick, I think. It's because my days are so full. I'm helping interview candidates for BSU council positions. It makes for a really full day -- I had class between 10 and 1, then I ate lunch on campus, and walked to the computer lab. I spent about 3, 3 1/2 hours there coding. Then interviews starts at six and finished after 10.

Today during Logic/Theory of Computing my friend who sits beside me and I chatted some about religion. Yeah, during class. I think we just really have little desire to pay attention in there. J___ shared that he had been raised in a Christian home, and brought up the point that some people tend to just kind of stay in the religion that they were raised in. He said that he wasn't really against believing in God. That he wasn't the sort of person that simply said that science was all that he needed, and all that could be explained there. But his mom worries about him. That she doesn't really go to church, but calls herself a Christian, and she worries that he will go to Hell. But, he said, he thought that there were people that were worse than him morally, so he thought he'd at have some argument in his favor. That even if he didn't really believe in God, he could at least say, "hey, I'm not so bad as some people". J____ commented on the 10 Commandments, saying that some of them were good moral rules that he was cool with. If you could throw some out about what he called religion, that he would be cool with them.

I wonder what all factors come into play when young people put themselves in a place to define their faith as their own. Some possibilities...
  • Impact that faith has had on their life -- Lack thereof

  • Network of friends sharing faith -- Lack thereof

  • Rate of growth in walk/faith -- Stagnancy?

  • Relationship with parents -- Rebellion?

  • Faith of family/parents -- Disbelief, Hypocrisy

  • Major Life Events - Loss, relocation, divorce, financial hardship

  • Influence of particular persons of faith, lack of faith, hypocrisy, love-filled, forgiving, judgemental?

  • Social status

  • Exposure to the true values and pillars of their faith -- Lack thereof

I don't mean to sound so callous as to thing that there's some kind of magic equation to people falling away or remaining in their faith. But I think those are some potential influences.

I got my sister's laptop up and running, but I keep forgetting to take it to campus with me. I think I really want to keep it, and install... I don't quite know what. FreeBSD seems to be pretty stubborn, I can only imagine what a nightmare it might be on a laptop. Some Linux distribution probably, and I could program on the run, in my house, with a mouse, on a bus in a rush.

A few Spring Break Quotes:

*seal noises* "Seal of approvement!"
=Guffy
"You like us in the kind of way that you don't ride our bus all week and then hop on it for the very last leg of the trip."
~me
"That sounded like velociraptor"
-Amanda, on-stage, during worship.
"Strange house."
=Guffy
"This is such a good work-out!"
=Erin, in reference to standing in one place in the sand, shaking her butt when a wave came in, in order to sink further into the sand
"I had a non-missions moment last night"
=anon.
Others:
"Wal*Mart!"
"Do we have Doug?"
I'm really pretty horrible at updating this thing.

And I'm really not going to add anything substantial now I just thought it would be good to post something new.

Spring break is over. I really could have handled another week at the beach. Panama City was very nice. The water was still very cold but not cold enough to prevent me from swimming in it. My neighbor-friend and I did were a 2-man drama team at a few different churches and other worship services. G____ kept messing up his lines and the real event became watching me scrambling to recover gracefully (I really wanted to type a split infinitive there) from his error. It was good times.

My room is an absolute wreck. I really wanted to clean it up over the break but that just didn't happen. Things are still busy with school, but they are falling in place. The second half of my java project got postponed from Wednesday until Friday. So, after having stayed up till 5:30 this morning, I took a nap this evening for several hours.

I've been listening to Third Day a lot lately. I never really had much before. Some of the girls did a basketball drill to 40 Days on the break.

I'm nearly done with getting my sister's computer back to normal after Windows died. I was a little confused; after I formatted and reinstalled Windows, it didn't ask me to put in a key, or ask me to activate the installation. I thought XP home did that each time your re-installed.

You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.
-Isaiah 55:12
